Hysteria about immigration continues to dominate political debate in the UK — in the traditional media and across social platforms.
The government is now under intense pressure to introduce tougher asylum rules to “appease public concern”.
But that concern isn’t rooted in reality.
Since Labour came into power last year, net migration to the UK has fallen by 69% year on year.
This isn’t surprising.
Before Brexit, Britain was effectively competing with Germany and the Netherlands on labour standards and pay. Outside the EU, it has tried to compete with Albania and Turkey instead.
That is why UK living standards have fallen so sharply — and why successive Conservative governments imported large numbers of low-paid workers to prop up the economy.
As the UK rebuilds its relationship with the EU, it becomes more competitive. That reduces demand for cheap, imported labour.
Small boat arrivals are also falling. November saw another drop — down 25% year on year. Arrivals have fallen in three of the last four months and are now well below the 2021 peak.
And yet none of this has reduced the level of hysteria. In fact, as the numbers fall, the rhetoric becomes more apocalyptic.
The government’s plans to tighten asylum rules won’t solve this.
Because the panic isn’t about migration.
It’s about identity.
The demand for “fewer migrants” is really a demand for a whiter Britain. A return to a version of the past that never actually existed.
And you can’t fix that with policy.
What are the numbers of people who aren’t migrants deciding to leave the UK for perceived better shores (Spain, Dubai, Bulgaria etc) due to the economic ignorance of the most dishonest UK government?
Which members of the cabinet have any actual real business experience outside of their political careers?
Why do the politicians ignore the views of the voting public once elected into office, it’s certainly not to stick to their election manifesto?
The numbers I am quoting are net (people arriving – people leaving)
There hasn’t been an increase in British nationals leaving the UK since the General Election. There has been a big increase in non-British nationals leaving the country. I assume you would welcome this?
Not sure this is the most dishonest UK Government? I am pretty sure that Boris Johnson has that title!!
Not sure why Business Experience is so important to run the Government. Trump had a long business career, often unsuccessfully, and has been a terrible President. His economic policies are crackers
I don’t know if you ever read Paul Krugman? This is an article he wrote for Harvard Business Review, explaining why business people often make rubbish politicians
What is it that people are saying that the Government isn’t listening to?

How can the Boriswave have been about importing cheap labour when the minimum wage wasn’t cut during that period?
Of course genuine illegal immigrants could be made to work for less than the minimum wage by threatening to rat them out, but wouldn’t the employers benefiting from this exploitation usually be criminals rather than legitimate firms, which the government would hardly wish to encourage?

What’s the basis for people arguing that immigrants are a threat to your “identity”?
Surely your identity and culture is your identity and culture, and no immigrants (unless the immigrants are criminally intolerant) can take that away from you?
immigrants came round my house and robbed the Poems of Blake of their quintessence
