Durham Pride

As you may know County Durham has a Reform Council. Predictably their first acts in power were to cut funding for Lumiere, the City’s award win light art festival that brought hundreds of thousands to the City, and to stop funding for Pride. The money instead will be used for special political advisors to do Councillors work for them

Decisions like this really demonstrate who Reform are -they are the party of the bossy bureaucrat, the nosy neighbour. People who want everyone’s lives to be as grey and miserable as their own.

The story does have a happy ending as Pride raised the money from elsewhere, with trades unions being big contributors.

Here are some photos of yesterday of people having fun, something apparently that is offensive to our new leaders.

  1. Hopefully this alone will get them booted out next time… I do believe they are a blip in the ocean, but people seem to be willing to give anyone a chance these days. Let’s hope the voters stay as fickle and get rid of them once their 30 seconds of patience has run out.

    • I am afraid that there are a group of people who spend far too much of their lives on line who are totally taken in by them. Hopefully there are more people who can see through them

“Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness.”

      • Just looked up that quote: it’s from Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism.
